Jenks City Council has approved a new development near Highway 75 that has caused major controversy.
It's being called Jenks Crossing, and will consist of stores, restaurants, service centers and apartments.
The council passed it saying it will be good for the area, but a number of residents feel otherwise. They are particularly concerned with the apartments being put in.
"We were told before we bought the house, that there would not be any apartments built in the area. It's only going to lower the value of our home," said Jeannie Kirk, a homeowner in the Jenks area.
The property developers say they will not lower the value of the area because the apartments will be worth just as much as the homes. Donnie Williamson with Infinity Properties saying, "the monthly payment versus what we have in the apartments will actually be about the same."
The city council approval means construction starts in just two months.
