JENKS, Okla. — Middle school students at Jenks Public Schools are starting the new calendar year on Tuesday with a brand new wing that houses three departments.
The building includes a wood shop, metal shop, drama room and world language classrooms.
The principal of the middle school said the space and tools will complement elective courses already taught.
"We might have an entire group of students who aren't that excited about some of their core classes, but they're really excited to come and learn how to weld, or they're really excited to learn another language," said Principal Nick Brown.
The new facility was funded through a school bond issue approved by Jenks voters.
There are more than 12,800 students enrolled this year in the school district.
The principal said as the district continues to grow, they continue to look at ways to offer the best education to their students.
