TULSA – For the seventh year in a row, many are encouraged to walk 68 miles from Tulsa to Stillwater in remembrance of an American hero.
Before the walk, the 2nd Jared Shoemaker Memorial Run is scheduled to start May 6 at Mohawk Park with a timed 5K run and one mile Fun Run.
Then on May 9, the 68 mile walk will kick off at the base of Chandler Park and is expected to conclude on May 11 in Stillwater.
Shoemaker was a Tulsa police officer and United States Marine Corps. Corporal who was killed in Iraq on Sept.4, 2006. Shoemaker was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 25th Marines and 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
All proceeds for the event will be donated to Special Olympics Oklahoma in Shoemaker’s name.
The memorial walk is scheduled to conclude as the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games in Stillwater begins.
