OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma health officials have appointed an internal candidate to head up the state's new Medical Marijuana Authority.

Oklahoma State Department of Health Interim Commissioner Tom Bates announced Thursday that Adrienne Rollins will lead the division overseeing medical pot. Rollins has been with the agency since 2012 and has been working since April on implementing the program in Oklahoma.

Rollins previously worked for the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Nearly 57 percent of Oklahoma voters in June decided to allow people to grow and use marijuana for medical purposes.

The State Department of Health has been roiled by scandals and resignations of top officials in recent months. A grand jury report this year found the agency badly bungled its finances and laid off nearly 200 workers unnecessarily.
