Injured Officer Bill: Would Help Officers Who Were Injured In the Field

A bill aimed at protecting those who keep our community safe is moving forward after unanimously passing a committee at the State Capitol.

The bill would allow officers who can no longer perform their duties to get 100 percent pension if they're injured in a violent act.

Like sergeant Matt Schoolfield, who was shot three years ago while serving a search warrant in Chickasha.

"Right now, it's doubtful that I'll be able to be a police officer again because of the loss of function in my hand," says Schoolfield. "Very scary because my wife works too, but I was the main source of income."

If it becomes law, officers hope the bill will be applied retroactively, and immediately.
