PRYOR, Okla. - Grand River Dam Authority personnel are on their way to Florida to help with restoration efforts in the wake of Hurricane Matthew bearing down on the east coast.

The plan for the 12-member crew is to help repair electric utility systems damaged in the storm. GRDA said on its Facebook page, it is heading near Jacksonville.

The convoy included 11 large utility vehicles and for some it's the second time they've helped restore power in the aftermath of a hurricane. Several GRDA employees help restoration efforts in Louisiana in 2005 following Hurricane Rita.

The crew from GRDA left early Friday morning to make the 1,180-mile trek to help.
