TULSA — Disinfecting your home can play a crucial role in avoiding getting the flu.

Breann Martinez, owner of Bliss Maid Services, said they focus on areas when they are cleaning that people frequently touch but do not clean.

"The light switches, the door frames, door knobs, the remote controls are really bad, faucets," Martinez said.

She suggests choosing paper towels over drying your hands on a cloth towel.

"Changing (towels) out on a daily basis, especially if you have little children who go to school and are really exposed to it is a good bet," Martinez said.

Bliss Maid Services takes extra precautions during flu season. They want to know if someone in the home has been sick. If someone is currently sick, they will reschedule the cleaning.

Even if your housekeeper comes every week, Martinez suggest disinfecting between their visits.

"The girls clean my house on a weekly basis and I still clean and disinfect in between the cleanings," Martinez said. "It's the safest way to keep your family healthy."
