How President Trump's SCOTUS pick could affect you

How President's SCOTUS pick could affect you

So how could President Donald Trump's pick sway some of the major court cases that affect Oklahomans the most?

Doc Blevins has managed presidential campaigns here in Oklahoma since the Nixon Administration.

Blevins says president trump's latest pick will be a major shift in how the court decides on high profile cases.

Tonight, Democrats quickly went on offense saying "a vote for Brett Kavanaugh is a vote to overturn Roe versus Wade which is the supreme court decision legalizing abortion.

They also talked about how this could gut the affordable care act popularly known as Obamacare.

However, Blevins says most Oklahomans will be concerned about how a conservative-leaning court with Kavanaugh as the nominee will weigh in on issues like religious freedom.

“We will get back to a court that understands that and that's big for everybody here and then just upholding,” Blevins said. “Getting rid of a lot of the regulations that have held back, held back the economy because that's really major because of so many, so much energy, aerospace, things that are affected by that in Oklahoma,"

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford was in the east room when president trump made his pick tonight. He says in part Judge Kavanaugh is an impressive and qualified nominee to be considered for the Supreme Court.

The president's nomination now goes to the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation hearings.
