HENRYETTA - Authorities in Okmulgee County had to deal with two homicides over the weekend, including one in Henryetta where they say a man shot a woman in the face.
District 25 Violent Crimes Task Force officers were called to the scene of a late Saturday evening shooting in the 200 block of West Merrick where they say they found Jima Burroughs with a head wound. Investigators report that Burroughs was alert at the time despite the wound, but later died after being taken to Hillcrest Henryetta Hospital.
They arrested Jessie James Scott, 33, for the murder late Sunday evening, apprehended at the home of a family member.
"After speaking with several individuals and assembling the District 25 Violent Crimes Task Force, investigators developed a person of interest," said Police Chief Steve Norman.
He said authorities searched for Scott at several places but were always "one step behind him."
Scott has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
Law enforcement recovered a weapon they believe was used in the shooting.
It was the second homicide scene authorities worked Saturday in Okmulgee County. The other was the shooting of a male found dead in his vehicle. The two homicides were not related.
