TULSA- Tulsa Tough organized has issued a heat advisory to participants on Sunday.
Officials say a decision was made to cancel the non-competitive Gran Fondo ride, which is the 103-mile Gran route and the Deuce Challenge.
However, cyclists that are registered for those rides will be allowed to participate in the shorter 65.1-mile Medio route. Those registered for the Double Tough Challenge may participate in the 65.1- mile and earn the Double Tough jersey upon completion.
Tulsa Tough organizers released the following statement Saturday evening:
"We recognize that many cyclists have experience with riding in hot weather. However, the summer heat, humidity, and intense sun has increased much more dramatically this year, with Saturday being the first truly hot summer day of the season. We believe most riders have not adjusted the weather yet."
They also remind every riders, racers and spectators to be smart about Summer weather. Hydrate often, use sunscreen, weather comfortable clothing and take advantage of shade and air conditioning wherever possible.
