TULSA - Clown masks are in high demand; Halloween retailers say sales have increased dramatically.

Although Halloween stores say the increase in sales is good for their business, they are aware of the recent social media threats. They say it's unfortunate a few ruin it for the rest.

"None of them have friendly faces," SpotLite Magic & Costumes Owner Sacheen Platten said. "We looked for some and all of them are scary."

Clown costumes and masks are part of the year round inventory at SpotLite Magic & Costumes. Since scary clowns have swept the nation, sales have hit the big top.

"We have seen an increase in people just wanting to scare family members, friends or someone that they know," Platten said.

Halloween Express online sales manager Brad Butler says clown masks are up 300 percent from a year ago.

"It's a bunch of people dressing up as creepy clowns and generally scaring people," Union High School junior Grayson Brown said.

"We've just been telling our customers to creep responsibly," Platten said.

Authorities are taking all clown threats seriously. They're warning people that they could face charges.
