Green Country home builders see rise in thefts

BROKEN ARROW - Over the past several months, home builders have had hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen from inside nearly completed houses.

"They can come in and strip a home and be out of here in less than 30 minutes," said Mike Goodman, owner of Goodman & Associates, LLC.

After having more than $10,000 worth of home appliances and fixtures stolen from houses he's building, Goodman said enough is enough.

"It's becoming a big epidemic that obviously we as a community need to shut down."

It's something Goodman said has been going on for months, affecting not only him but several other home builders as well, in counties all across Green Country.

"They're taking all the appliances, all the fixtures," Goodman said. "On a house like this, which is not a large house, it could be upwards of $10,000.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said they have arrested one man in connection with multiple thefts, but said more are out there.

He said they need the public's help to be on the watch.

"Be the eyes and ears of the sheriff's office," Walton said. "We look at new home construction and neighborhood with a lot of new homes going up, and we see a lot of people come and go, a lot of contractors. So, it's what looks out of place?"

Sheriff Walton and Goodman said they found a lot of the stolen property on Craigslist.

"I know people love a deal, but if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. It's stolen," Goodman said.
