SALINA, Okla.- Grand River Dam Authority officials said a 16 year-old boy was swimming with family and friends at the Lakeshore RV Park on Lake Hudson before he went under and never resurfaced.

Officials said the water he was swimming is about 8 feet deep.

GRDA divers began searching the water and using sonar equipment to find the boy’s body.

After about 4 hours of searching divers located the boy’s body where he went under.

GRDA officials said their hearts go out to the boy’s family and friends as they are dealing with a tragic loss.

“Thoughts and prayers with this family as they cope with this, cause this is, this is just an unfortunate end to this whole day,” said GRDA Spokesman Justin Alberty.

Locust Grove and Salina firefighters also helped with the search and recovery efforts.

The boy's name isn't being released yet, but his body is being turned over to the medical examiner's office.

GRDA officials said he wasn't wearing a life jacket while he was swimming at the lake.
