PRYOR, Okla. -- The cost to produce power is getting cleaner and cheaper.

The Grand River Dam Authority dedicated its new 'combined cycle gas plant' Friday at its power plant near Pryor.

The $500 million dollar project will take natural gas and turn it into power for 15 cities in Oklahoma.

“We have a commitment to our customers to provide efficient low-cost electricity and that's exactly what this does, it burns Oklahoma Natural Gas, so it's using Oklahoma fuel to provide Oklahomans with the needed Electricity," said GRDA Chairman Dan Sullivan.

GRDA sells wholesale power to cities across the region.

“This natural gas that Oklahomans are producing is so inexpensive that it costs less than just the rail transport would've cost to bring coal here," said Paul Browning, President of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas.

Officials say the sulfur dioxide emissions from the plant are reduced by 99-percent with the new generator.
