MANNFORD — A GoFundMe account has been set up to build a safe room at a childcare center in Mannford after the building was damaged in a storm back in June.

RELATED STORY: NWS says straight-line winds, not tornado hit Mannford

On June 23, the National Weather Service says 80-85 mph straight-line winds swept through Mannford, which caused the roof of the Lakeside Child Development Center to be ripped off the building, as well as damage to other buildings in town.

Now, employees of the childcare center are trying to raise $15,000 to build a safe room for the daycare facility.

In a statement to 2 Works for You, Lakeside CDC officials say they are blessed the storms happened on a Sunday when no one was there at the facility.

"We are trying to raise funds for supplies for the building we lost," officials said. "Classrooms that were effected include infants, ones, twos and school age. These room house a total of 39 children. We also lost the main office, craft supply closet, and our kitchen. Our playground was hit with the roof and we had fence damage and lots of our little riders and big climber where damaged. It was a blessing that it was on a Sunday and no children were on site. Our biggest want is to be able to put in a safe room. We would greatly appreciate any help we can get."

Thus far, they have raised $3,525.
