City workers were repairing a water line early Friday morning near 19th Street and Riverside when they accidently struck a gas line.
The fire department said natural gas was leaking, but levels were not high enough to warrant an evacuation and posed no threat to the public.
Traffic is being diverted around the area while repairs are underway.
