Funeral service announced for Arkansas police officer who was 'ambushed and executed' in parking lot

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The funeral service has been announced for the Arkansas police officer shot and killed in the police station's parking lot on Dec. 7, according to the Fayetteville Arkansas Police Department Facebook page.

On Saturday, Officer Carr, a patrol officer who had served the department for more than two years, was "ambushed and executed while sitting in his patrol vehicle," the Fayetteville Police Department said.

London T. Phillips was found armed in the parking lot by two officers that heard gunshots behind the station around 9:42 p.m. local time, according to police.

Police say a confrontation ensured and the officers fired at Phillips, who was injured.

The officers gave medical attention to the wounded men, and paramedics were called, both Carr and the suspect died at the scene.

The Facebook post says on Dec. 11 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the University Baptist Church, visitation for Officer Stephen Carr will be held.

The University Baptist Church is located at 333 West Maple Street in Fayetteville, Ark.

The funeral service for Officer Stephen Carr will take place on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Bud Walton Arena, the post says.

The Bud Walton Arena is located at 1270 Leroy Pond Drive in Fayetteville, Ark.

The post says that both services are open to the public.
