Tulsa cyclists remembered one of their own after police said a pickup slammed into their friend, killing him.

It happened over the weekend near 11th and Harvard.

Thiemo Schmidt came to Tulsa five years ago.

He grew up in Germany and quickly made friends in Tulsa with his fellow runners and avid bicyclists.

Schmidt just turned 30 and was riding home with a friend last weekend along 11th St when police said the driver of a pickup rear-ended Schmidt--hitting and killing him.

Schmidt's friend only suffered minor injuries.

Police said the cyclists were doing everything right-- riding in the far-right lane with the proper lights on.

“There's no reason for something like that to happen to somebody who had such a bright future. I mean he just graduated college. he moved back. he got a great job. excited for life. excited for the future," said Zach Stegman, a friend of Schmidt.

Tulsa Police said officers took the pickup driver to the hospital for a mandatory blood test after the crash... No word yet on what charges he could face.

Schmidt's friends are working with his family in Germany to get them to Oklahoma.
