TULSA, Okla. — A family is grieving the loss of a young man after an armed robbery Tuesday night.

The shooting happened just outside The Kings Plaza convenience store off Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Pine St.

Jawad Awan, who goes by “Jay”, owns the store and knew the victim and his family.

“He had a lot of passions and goals in his life and it’s gone away in just one minute,” Awan said.

The victim is 27-year-old Muhammed Imran, who just started working at the store. Imran and another employee took out the trash Tuesday night around 11 p.m. when they were approached by an armed man.

Investigators with Tulsa police said Imran ignored the man who demanded they get on the ground. The other clerk complied.

Police said the suspect shot Imran in the chest. The suspect then took the other employee into the store to empty the cash register then ran away.

Awan is still in shock over who would do this.

“I’ve been helping in this community for the last 14 years and I know everybody in this neighborhood and this neighborhood is very good to us," Awan said. "I don’t know this guy, who was he, what his intention was.”

According to Awan, Imran comes from a good family in Tulsa and he recently got married in Pakistan. His wife is still living there.

Awan wants whoever did this to be found.

“I believe he need to be punished, because he has taken one person’s life for no reason who just started his new marriage life and taking life from somebody for just couple of hundred dollars? It’s not worth it,” Awan said.

Awan said the family hopes to bury Imran immediately which is customary in their faith.

Tulsa police did not have any additional updates to share with 2 Works for You at the time of this posting.
