As the 2018-19 school year begins, parents stock up on the costly list of required school supplies and backpacks.
For some, the purchase of these items is a hardship.
To assist those in need, community churches and organizations have collected supplies and funds to donate not only school supplies and backpacks, but also haircuts and immunizations.
Over the next few weeks these organizations are hosting back-to-school festivals, fairs and bashes. Some events even offer food, safety assistance and fun!
Here is a list of a few of the upcoming events:
Rogers County School Supply Program
When: Donations accepted starting Wed., August 1st - 17th, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: First United Methodist Church Claremore, 1615 North Hwy 88, Claremore, 918-341-4580
What: Student scan register to receive school supplies in Central Campus Children's Center
For: Students K-12 in Rogers County
Bixby Outreach Center
When: Thurs., August 2nd, all day
Where: Bixby Outreach Center, 77 E. Breckenridge Ave., Bixby 918-366-9226
What: Free school supplies and backpacks, plus free hot dogs.
For: Students of Bixby, Keifer, Mounds, Haskell, Glenpool, Jenks, Leonard, and Liberty schools.
Broken Arrow Back-to-School Bash
When: Saturday, August 4th, 9 a.m. - Noon
Where: The Assembly, 101st and 129th East Avenue, 918-251-8591
What: Free haircuts, free school supplies, vision screenings, immunizations and more!
For: Students K-12 at Broken Arrow Public Schools, Union Public Schools and private schools
Washington County School Supply Drive
When: Friday, August 6th, 8:30 a.m. - Noon and 1-6 p.m.
Where: St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 210 E. 9th Street, Bartlesville
What: Students who signed up will receive backpacks
For: Students K-12, photo ID required
Cuts for Kids
When: August 6th and 7th, 9:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Where: Clary Sage College, 31st and Sheridan, Tulsa 918-298-8200
What: Free school haircuts on a walk-in basis
For: Students K-12
Back-to-School Community Resource Fair
When: Thursday, August 9th, 9 a.m. – Noon
Where: Tulsa Tech - Lemley Memorial Campus, 3420 S. Memorial Dr., 918-549-7323
What: Free school supplies and backpacks for school-age children, free eye screenings, free immunizations, haircuts and dental screenings.
For: Students K-12
Claremore Back-to-School Bash
When: Sat., August 12th, 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

What: Free eye screening, free immunizations, voucher for free haircut, jean exchange
For: Students K-12 in Rogers County
Guts Church - Helping Teachers Win
When: Thur., August 19th, 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.
