There is a push to get women out of prison, who some believe have served enough of their sentence.

The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls held their conference this weekend in Tulsa.

Oklahoma leads the nation in incarceration rates and those at the event say these people behind bars sometimes don't get a fair chance.

Tiawana Brown from the National Council tells us "sometimes we want to paint a picture of a person that's been in prison but we are mothers, we are doctors, we are lawyers, we are people in the community trying to change the perception of what incarcerated people look like."

The event will continue tomorrow at The Marriott Tulsa Hotel Southern Hills.
