Foster charity needs help keeping the lights on

Posted

A local charity that helps foster families is feeling some growing pains and needs your help.

They have plenty of donations for clothes and other goods, but organizers tell 2 Works For You they need money because they're struggling to pay the bills to keep the charity going.

Joey Reyes and his wife founded the James Mission three years ago.

What started as a small community outreach from the Reyes' Broken Arrow garage, is now a regional hub for the foster community.

They serve about 300 foster families a month out of the former Cornerstone Community Center in West Tulsa.

The Reyes family was able to raise enough money to get the utilities paid for September, but they said this is a problem they run into every month.

"There's nothing like this in Oklahoma to be honest with you. Not this big. Not that does the overwhelming that we do all together. There's places that do help with bags and things like that, but doing what we do, there's not anyone else down," said Joey Reyes, Co-Founder of the James Mission.

The James Mission runs everything from social outreach services to a clothing pantry - all under one roof.
