TULSA - A former Tulsa insurance agent has been charged with 15 counts of embezzlement totaling more than $61,000.

Michael Winston Hefner, 47, was charged with embezzling funds from Oklahoma Farm Bureau between 2013 and 2015, according to court documents.

Most of the amounts Hefner is accused of taking were between $1,000 and $2,000, in some instances he took as much as $10,000 or more, according to the documents.

Prosecutors say he embezzled $11,964 from the agency in 2014 and $13,400 in 2015. According to court documents, Hefner worked for Oklahoma Farm Bureau as late as January 2015. Indebtedness lawsuits were filed against Hefner in 2011 and 2013.

A judge then authorized garnishments from Oklahoma Farm Bureau in those lawsuits filed by Capital One Bank, Saint Francis Health System and two buyers of charged-off debts.

Hefner's insurance license expire in August 2015, according to Oklahoma Department of Insurance records.
