First responders rescued more than a dozen people stranded by high water in Mayes County. The Grand River overflowed and shut off access into a mobile home park near Chouteau.

About nine people remain here at the Choteau Bend Recreational Area. They decided to stay in their mobile homes even though the entrance is blocked because of flooding.

Firefighters from Choteau and Pryor went to the area Tuesday morning along with police from the Grand River Dam Authority.

They used boats to ferry about 16 people and a few pets across the flooded entrance. Water started coming into the mobile home park from the river this weekend. Neighbors who were carried to safety say they woke up today and it was much worse.

" I've been here for 10 years, and I haven't ever seen it this high. I've been coming around here since I was a young guy," says Jack Simons.

Paramedics took one man to the hospital for an unrelated medical issue. Firefighters say no one else was hurt.
