Fire leaves several families without a home

Three adults and eight children may have lost everything in an apartment fire at Worthington Townhomes near Garnett and 21st Street.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in one of the buildings.

At first, Tulsa firefighters tried to put out the flames from inside the building, but it got too dangerous.

"The safety personnel stated that the roof started to come down. We pulled everyone out and went defensive at that time for their protection," says Captain Bob Peters from the Tulsa Fire Department.

They were finally able to put out the fire in about and half and hour.

Captain Peters says they had to shut down the water to the whole complex because they could not find a water valve to stop just the affected building.

The property management says it has called in a plumber to work and restore the water as soon as possible.

It also found the families affected a place to stay.

The American Red Cross was also on scene assisting with food and water.

No injuries were reported during the fire.
