Family of 4 safe after townhome fire

Posted

TULSA – A mother and her three children are safe after a fire broke out in their townhome.

Tulsa firefighters say around 2 a.m. Friday, the smell of smoke in a townhome at North Nogales Avenue woke one mother.

Fire crews say the flames originated when an electrical fire erupted then crept up the stairs, working its way to the second floor.

"They were able to get out of that second story window, crawl over the roof to the other side and the neighbor helped them come down prior to us being on scene,” said Capt. Mike Burgess.

The family did have working smoke detectors, but for some reason they failed to activate.

Currently, the Red Cross is assisting the family to find another temporary home
