MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- A Muskogee mother and her child were rescued from their roof after a fire broke out in their kitchen Tuesday.

No one was hurt in the fire, which happened around noon, but firefighters said the two-story home near Lawrence and F Street was damaged by smoke.

"Our rescue crew went ahead and laddered up and took two people off the roof, a three year old child and a mother” Muskogee Fire Department assistant chief Kevin Warlick said.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.

The mother and her four children are being assisted by the American Cross after being displaced from their home.
