Posted
and last updated

John Lewis teaches Social Studies and Geography in Peggs, he has been an educator for thirty seven years.

Lewis tells us he knew what his career would be when he was a senior in high school.

"I was working kind of as a janitor and I would interact with a couple of the teachers, and they just got me interested in it" Lewis says.

John Lewis has been an educator in Peggs for twenty of this thirty seven years, and shows no sign of slowing down.

Dr. John Cox, Peggs Superintendent, tells us, "he's currently working on his doctorate which really means a lot to me because he is always trying to improve himself and that's a great role model for our kids."

Cox says that John wears several hats as he works with the kids. He helps with attendance, federal programs, and is a reading coach.

Dr. Cox says the school system is more like a family in Peggs, with about two hundred and ten students in the K-8th grade district.

Taylor Forrest, a student of John Lewis, says "He's one of the one's who's like 'You have to get your work done.' He's kind of strict. But then again he lets you do stuff that's fun, too."

For all John Lewis has done with helping shape the students of Peggs and preparing them for a successful future, he is recognized as an Excellent Educator.

Tatton Manning with Patriot Auto Group says, "I just want to say on behalf of everyone at Patriot, congratulations. You make a difference every day and we appreciate it!"

Patriot Auto Group presented Lewis with a $200 check for being an Excellent Educator.
