DO NOT APPROACH: Man attempted to run over police officer

Posted

NOWATA, Okla. -- Authorities are working to locate a man who fled from officers in Nowata County and tried to run over a South Coffeyville officer.

Officials said Eric Whitney has warrants out of Oklahoma for numerous drug offenses.

When South Coffeyville officers contacted him, an arrest was attempted, but a struggle ensued and Whitney got into his vehicle to flee. The officer was still holding onto the man when he fled. The officer's arm was hurt, but he is OK, police said.

Whitney fled in his vehicle on yards, sidewalks and railroad tracks before his vehicle became inoperable and he ran on foot.

Whitney was last seen in Coffeyville, Kansas, and lives in Delaware, Oklahoma. He is facing felony charges out of South Coffeyville.

If anyone sees the man, they are asked to call 911 immediately. Approaching the man is not recommended because he is considered dangerous, police said.
