COWETA, Okla.- Coweta police are trying to determine whether a man's death Friday night was intentional or not.

The man was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside the best western hotel Friday night.

Folks who live near the Coweta Best Western say their weekend started with chaos.

“I was up until about 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning...watching,” said neighbor Anita McClary. “then the medical examiner came and I said, this is a bigger problem.”

Police found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head surrounded by drugs and alcohol inside the hotel.

Investigators say he had been staying there a few days with a woman.

“What we don't know is what took place inside the room,” said Coweta police chief Michael Bell. “We have to look at this as either a suicide, a murder, or maybe an accidental shooting. The evidence will lead us in the right direction. That's why we called OSBI.”

Investigators worked overnight to gather as much information as they could. They questioned the woman inside, they're working on gunshot analysis, but no arrests have been made, and many elements of this case remain a mystery.

“Again, we could have a homicide here. That's why we need to be cautious,” said Chief Bell.

Meanwhile, neighbors say it's scary to see crime close to home...and they blame the hotel.

“Just in the time that it's been here, there's been so many things going on. And we all knew when it was first being built, it wasn't going to be a good thing,” said McClary. “i hope it doesn't happen again.”
