Coweta police are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found in a field behind a home, the police chief says.
Coweta police provided an update at 5:30 p.m. The victim was identified as Chrissie Varize, 43. Watch below:
Chief Mike Bell says the body appears to have been there about two weeks and investigators believe she died as a result of a fight with family.
Police believe the woman was reported missing on Halloween but believe she was last seen days before that.
The chief said the department had few leads on the disappearance until a witness came to the police station Monday and gave information that led investigators to the home by the train tracks near Chestnut and Delaware.
They used a drone to assist in finding her body.
"The message to the community, what they need to understand is, that your police department is on the scene," Bell said. "We are working the scene at this time. Everybody is safe and secure. We will have officers on the street tonight."
A nearby elementary school was placed on "soft lockdown" earlier on Monday, but it was given the all-clear after it was determined the person of interest was not there.
The chief has not named the person of interest but says they are questioning people. He did confirm the body found is not related to any other case in the area.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation now is taking on the case. The state medical examiner will make the official determination of the cause and manner of death.
