COWETA, Okla. -- A longtime home for one Coweta family is now in pieces on the ground. Memories are now buried under the rubble.
"That was one of the things that was precious to me and I lost it," Kelli Baucom said.
It's a short walk around the home.
"This is where the fire started right here. Here is where it hurts the most," Kelli Baucom said.
Thirty-five years worth of stories are now scattered across the yard.
"It just feels like it took a chunk of my heart," she said.
She said her husband Marvin helped saved everyone. Twelve family members were inside when lightning struck early Sunday morning.
"I told my son to get all the babies out, and take a head count and make sure you got them all," Marvin Baucom said.
It was one of many curve balls Marvin Baucom said life sends us.
"It was alright. We got out," he said.
Luckily, they had insurance. But they said they're only allotted less than $22,000 until they can rebuild.
"For 12 people and trying to go find like a house to rent for 5 bedrooms or so on...I mean it's hard," Kelli Baucom said.
Marvin is living in a camper to watch over a life he's worked hard to build while his wife and family stay at a local hotel.
With just 7 days until school starts, these grandparents starting over.
If you'd like to donate to the family, you can donate to them at any BancFirst location.
