MCALESTER, Okla. — An Oklahoma Department of Corrections officer stopped a large drug drop near the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester on Sunday, officials said.

Officials said the officer witnessed the driver of a pickup truck drive into the parking lot at the Probation and Parole office next to the correctional center, and then turn around and leave the area.

The officer searched the parking lot and found a large bag, which contained about 50 grams of black tar heroin, more than 50 grams of meth, nearly 60 grams of an unknown yellow wax substance, more than a pound of marijuana, tobacco products and more than a dozen cellphones.

“The Department of Corrections is at war with drug dealers both inside and outside the wire. Kudos to the officer who followed his instincts and found the bag,” ODOC Director Joe M. Allbaugh says.

ODOC's Security Threats Intelligence Office is investigating the situation.
