The Rogers County community of Fair Oaks is scrambling to create their own fire department before a service contract with nearby town Oak Grove expires this summer.
Residents gathered at a church Thursday night to work through some ideas.
Their goal is to create a temporary fire department in Fair Oaks, while they secure funding and resources for a permanent facility.
If they can’t get this done by June, they will try to arrange services with Catoosa or Rolling Hills, but some residents are concerned about slow response times.
“My parents are getting older my sister has health issues and you have a problem at three in the morning you need to have somebody that will respond in a quick time,” Windy McCay explained.
Fair Oaks is looking for volunteers and free land to set up a temporary department within the next month, hoping to buy time to fix the problem.
