Food bank makes top 10 list nation wide

Getting a near perfect score and four stars isn't a rarity for our very own Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Now, they made it even higher, by getting on Charity Navigator's 10 Top-Notch Charities list.

The watchdog organization ranks charities based on transparency, accountability and financial stability and gives them up to four stars. They've been watching our local food bank since 2012, according to their online records. Each time the food bank has scored in the high 90's with all four stars.

This year, they received a final score of 99.78, their highest yet. The executive director, Eileen Bradshaw, says she had no idea they'd accomplished this feat until they saw it on the website.

Bradshaw said quickly shared the information with their donors as further proof that the charity is putting donations to good use. She said a number of their donations are in small amounts that "are obviously coming out of [someone's] own grocery budget."

Thank you, Phil Lakin for this nice post: I hope donors, foundations, the press, and everyone else takes notice of this...

"We do try hard to make sure that we are good stewards of these gifts," Bradshaw said. "It feels good when those efforts are validated by a third party."

Charity Navigator makes a number of top-ten lists, from the most followed charities to the ones with the highest paid CEO's.
