Collinsville woman donates thousands of dolls to Honduran kids

Posted

COLLINSVILLE, Okla. -- A Collinsville woman dedicates her time collecting, cleaning, and sending thousands of dolls to kids in need in Honduras.

Deborah Anderson has been part of the mission, Gathering Hearts for Honduras, at Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Owasso for more than 15 years.

Nearly every year they've collected hundreds of boxes filled with clothes, hygiene products, and toys to send to a mission in Honduras during the holidays.

She says she noticed the dolls packed inside the boxes were not dressed or clean, so she took it upon herself to bring some much needed TLC.

She finds the dolls at thrift stores or garage sales, and pairs along accessories to match the theme of the doll. She has brides, cowboys, princesses, and many more for the kids ranging from age two to 12.

Anderson puts hours of work into each doll, and she says many other members of the church also pitch in to make the holidays special for the kids in Honduras.

"All they had to play with was a pop bottle, and they said they’d wrap a rag around that pop bottle and they’d pretend it was a baby," said Anderson.

Her church gathers items to bring to Honduras year long, and sends boxes every two years.

If you are interested in donating any items, you can go to their website, or send items to "Gathering Hearts for Honduras" at P.O. Box 1437 Owasso, OK 74055.
