CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A Claremore family is turning heads with a political display this Halloween season.

The Tefft family said the goal is bringing awareness, with midterm elections just around the corner. The theme is "Make Halloween Great Again."

The homeowners tell 2 Works for You although it is a nod to the current administration, they also want to bring attention to the issues dividing the country.

By addressing everything from Bill Cosby to Colin Kaepernik, the display is an ode the controveries creating a scare across the nation.

"Halloween is supposed to be about scary things and right now the political climate in our country is pretty scary," Thomas Tefft said.

Tefft decided on a timely display, drawing attention to political divides, with the midterm election less than a week after Halloween.

"They're very important for this election and I think it's a message to let people know where we stand and what's at stake for our country," he said.

Tefft and his wife wanted to bring up multiple issues, including those that cross party lines, like the #MeToo movement.

"They need to know it isn't right. Back when I was younger... you weren't told, it wasn't spoken about. It was kept quiet and you didn't know if you could come forward or not," Brenda Tefft said.

Some neighbors said they disagree with making Halloween political, while others tell 2 Works for You they believe the display is all in good fun.

"For the most part it's been positive. I have had a couple of people walk by and they'd be rolling their eyes like "really?" But they didn't come against us or anything," Tefft said.

The couple said they do worry about offending people, but that this is their way of voicing an opinion before the election.
