City of Tulsa officials said crews will begin the demolition f the pedestrian bridge near 56th and Harvard on Saturday.

Harvard will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bridge has been closed since July after an inspection found advanced corrosion, officials said.

Officials said the city and Tulsa Public Schools have worked together to identify and evaluate alternatives to provide a pedestrian crossing in the general location of the existing bridge since the bridge is close to several TPS schools.

Reconstruction was considered, but rehabbing the bridge was not doable since it wasn't up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards, officials said.

Officials said the project should be completed before the 2019 school year begins.
