TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 5-year-old child on a scooter near the Gathering Place on Tuesday night.

Police said the child, later identified as Cadence Reyes-Ortiz, and his mother were riding a rented scooter southbound in the outside, northbound lanes of Riverside Drive when they were struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene.

The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.

Police said the mother did not appear to be hospitalized for her injuries.

The collision took place about 8:30 p.m. at 31st Street and Riverside Drive.

Officers said the vehicle, a newer model, red Honda Civic was located in the parking lot of the Waterside Apartments and was then towed pending a search warrant.

Police were able to locate the vehicle by following a debris trail: front bumper was found at 17th and Riverside, front grill at 27th and Riverside and parts from the front wheel wells were located at the scene of the accident, police said.

Police arrested Renier S. Davison in connection with the crash after they said he admitted to driving the vehicle during the collision.

A witness at the apartment complex said they heard a door close on what is believed to be the suspect's apartment before hearing crying and a bang, police said.

After conducting a search warrant on the apartment, police said they found it unoccupied.

Police said if you witnessed the accident, you are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 918-596-2677.

Investigators say they are reviewing video surveillance footage from Gathering Place.
