CHICKASHA - A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning here in an officer-involved shooting. The Chickasha Police Department has asked OSBI to be involved in the investigation.
Officers were called to a residence about 2 a.m. and when they arrived, they say they announced who they were and a man approached them with a gun. Police say a gunfight ensued and the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1908 W. Montana in Chickasha.
The fatally wounded man was identified as Steve Vanananda, 56.
Six OSBI agents were called to the scene to investigate. The unidentified officer who fired the fatal shot is on routine administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation. The OSBI will present its findings to the district attorney.
The DA will then determine whether the shooting was justified.
