The Cherokee Nation is mourning the death of one of their own.
The tribe's director of the self governance department passed away from COVID-19, according to an announcement on the Cherokee Nation's Facebook page.
The Cherokee Nation said that Karen Ketcher from Stilwell was a dear friend, mother, grandmother, beloved coworker and champion of protecting the Cherokee people and the tribe’s right to self governance.
As of today, Cherokee Nation Health Services has 28 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
