The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino builds life-size gingerbread house to display in lobby for holidays

More than 2,000 eggs, 500 pounds of sugar and 2,300 pieces of candy make up the largest gingerbread house in Catoosa, OK at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

The life-size edible masterpiece was created by the kitchen staff at the Hard Rock and preparation began in August for the December display inside the hotel's lobby.

Executive Sous Chef, Nicholas Andoe, says the staff began creating gingerbread houses in 2015 and this year's plan was to construct a house to really capture the attention of hotel visitors.

“This year we wanted to throw out all the stops. We've added about 1,000 pieces of candy. We've added more gingerbread, we've changed up the way we're doing the gingerbread,” Andoe said.

The house's roof and chimney is made out of Hershey's chocolate bars, the shingles are made up of large gum balls, the windows are hardened sugar, and the frame is supported by large candy canes.

Although the gingerbread house is the most popular Christmas decoration displayed inside the Hard Rock, the hotel will also have multiple Christmas trees, toy trains, and free gingerbread samples on Friday's and Saturday's to accompany the “Winter Wonderland” theme.

Along with the dozens of shows, resort attractions, and gourmet food, Andoe says the Hard Rock is making it's case as a top flight destination within the region.

“We'd like to be able to says that we're becoming a world renown property and we're going to continue to do that. We're just really proud to be apart of that, just showing the features of what we can do. This is the fun stuff for us,” Andoe said.
