TULSA — Calling all "Greasers" and "Socs," "The Outsiders" is coming to the drive-in!

The Admiral Twin, Tulsa's drive-in movie theater, is showing the 1983 film "The Outsiders" starting Friday.

Tulsa author S.E. Hinton started writing "The Outsiders" at the age of 15. Hinton wrote most of the book when she was a junior in high school at the age of 16.

"The Outsiders" takes place in Tulsa, although it never says it in the book. It is told in first person by character, Ponyboy Curtis and follows the conflict between two gangs, the "greasers" and "socs," divided by their economic status.

In 1967, The Outsiders book was published when Hinton was only 18.

Francis Ford Coppola turned the book into a coming-of-age drama film. A librarian and students from Lone Start Elementary school in Fresno, California, inspired Coppola to create the movie.

The movie released in 1983 with a cast of up-and-coming stars.

The cast includes:

  • C. Thomas Howell
  • Rob Lowe
  • Emilio Estevez
  • Matt Dillon
