BROKEN ARROW, Okla.- Students enrolled in the Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp were caught off guard when singer, actress, and performer Kristin Chenoweth stepped on the stage during rehearsal at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center.

Although rumors circulated earlier in the week that Chenoweth may drop in for a visit, students were stunned when she appeared and began to dance as one student rehearsed the hit song “Oh What a Night” by The Four Seasons.

Dozens laughed and clapped as Chenoweth encouraged the student to continue singing and many looked on in disbelief.

Chenoweth, a native of Broken Arrow, helped create the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center and says seeing the look on each students face when she arrived was a very special moment.

“Whenever life gets too hard I hope to recall that moment because that was pretty cool. To see their faces light up, and you know it's a circle. It makes my face light up too. Hopefully we just keep inspiring each other,” Chenoweth said.

The Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp is in it's second year and organizers hope the week-long camp continues to grow. More than 400 students from all over Oklahoma applied to the camp, however only 45 were accepted.

Chenoweth, who has earned multiple awards as an actress and performer, says though some students may not pursue a career on stage the camp is designed to teach life skills as well as performance techniques.

“Even if a kid doesn't end up going into it, they're in finance or they run a company hopefully they can take the skills that they learn here. How to communicate through song might help them learn how to communicate in life,” Chenoweth said.
