BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Broken Arrow is delaying the opening of public pools due to the lack of available lifeguards.

Many of the city's lifeguards are high school or college students, and must be certified prior to employment. Many of those approved to work for this year are still transitioning from the school year or completing lifeguard training.

The city is accepting applications for lifeguards. Those interested can apply here.

The city anticipates opening pools on June 9, or possibly sooner, rather than the previously planned date of June 2.

The city's five splash pads are open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
