TULSA — Booker T. Washington is one of Tulsa's oldest high schools, established in 1913.

The school is rich in history and tradition, including with the crowning of their homecoming king and queen.

This time-honored tradition not only has Booker T. Washington students celebrating, but their alumni as well.

"Once a hornet, always a hornet and its apart of your rich history, because the experience is once in a lifetime," said alumni Signee House-Bland.

House-Bland is talking about the coronation of Mr. and Miss Hornet and the naming of their court.

"Booker T. has a long-standing historical history of doing things at a high level of excellence," House-Bland said.

Being crowned is a significant accomplishment, and a way to honor and celebrate seniors who have done outstanding work and represent the school at a high level.

"When I was little, I use to come to coronation and see all of the crownings, and see how elegant it was," said 2019 Miss Hornet Sheridan Ransey. "For me to finally to be apart of that and just be up here is just amazing."

For alumni of Booker T. Washington like House-Bland, coronation is a walk down memory lane "to come back and support the school and reminisce about their days here at Booker T."
