BOLEY, Okla. -- A Boley Police Department K-9 officer is expected to recover after being shot in the mouth Thursday morning.

Boley police said an officer was conducting sniff training at 8:15 a.m. with his K-9 partner, Emmitt, when the officer noticed the dog was becoming nauseous.

The officer pulled over to take Emmitt on a walk, and had the dog on a long leash south of Guthrie when he heard a pop sound and saw the dog wince.

Officials said the dog had an apparent gunshot wound to the mouth, and was taken to a veterinary hospital. A full recovery is expected, but the wound caused significant damage.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Boley Police Department at 918-667-3700.

Anyone interested in helping out with Emmitt's surgery can donate to the Blue Pearl Vet Clinic in Oklahoma City at 1401 West Memorial Road. The phone number to the clinic is 405-749-6989.
