TULSA — Michael Bloomberg spoke at the historic Vernon Chapel AME Church in the Greenwood District.
Officials say he mentioned the 1921 Race Massacre.
Bloomberg says he was never taught about the massacre and only learned about it after his visit last year.
"Like many Americans, I'm ashamed to say I didn't know about it..... Including the economic legacy in much more direct ways," Bloomberg said.
He says despite taking many history classes, the legacy of Black Wall Street was not a topic discussed.
