BIXBY, Okla. - Have you seen one? Have you heard them?

You wouldn't be alone.

Residents in Bixby have been reporting sightings of coyotes to authorities.

"There were at least six or eight howling coyotes and a screaming, crying animal, maybe somebody’s pet,” said Connie Englind who lives in Bixby.

Englind said it's been three months since she's seen her dog, Mitzi. She thinks there's only one answer for where she may be.

“We think a coyote probably got her.”

A spokesperson with the Bixby Police Department said the city has set up cameras in wooded areas of concern to monitor coyotes and that they are working with the Department of Wildlife about setting up traps and other possible plans of action.

Wildlife experts said coyote sightings are common this time of year.

“Coyotes have their pups in the summer. The pups are growing up right now and they require a lot of food, so the moms are overtime running around looking for food,” said Richard Waite of Okie Wildlife Control.

We've also heard from a resident in Bristow who's seen a coyote in her backyard during the day.

Last year, we created this map in 2015 to plot sightings in Green Country.

If you've seen one in your neck of the woods, you are asked to contact your local police department or wildlife department. Let us know on our Facebook page or by emailing us at news@kjrh.com if you see one.
