BIXBY, Okla. -- Bixby residents were frustrated Saturday as water pressure problems continued for the second straight day.
Frank Woodward is one of roughly 80 Bixby residents experiencing low water pressure. He said water pressure isn't uncommon for his neighborhood, but low water pressure is uncommon for 3 days in a row.
"We'll have a little bit of low pressure for a little while, every now and then, but this time it took it a little while it's been that way for about a day and a half now," said Woodward.
On Thursday, crews began flushing hydrants to stabilize the water system's chloramine levels and to limit water turn over. City leaders said this is what caused the low water pressure.
"As we took water out as part of that flushing program, it's obviously made less water available and less pressures for them," said Bixby City Manager Jared Cottle.
City officials said crews are now working to recover the water system hydraulically to get the water pressure back up.
"We'll be sure we get the water volumes pressures out there back up to the normal pressures that they're used to," said Cottle.
Woodward said his water pressure did come up some today, but he' doesn't know when it'll go back down.
"It may go down again, but hopefully they'll have it taken care of here pretty quick," said Woodward.
Crews are currently working round the clock and hope to have the water pressure back up early next week. They said until then residents may experience low water pressure throughout the rest of the weekend.
